Old Town Auburn Café Delicious opened in 1964 and is the first of five Café Delicious Restaurants owned by Nabor Ramirez and his wife Rosario. There are two restaurants in Auburn, Old Town and the Grass Valley Highway location, two in Rocklin and one in Roseville. Nabor Ramirez came to the United States in 1953 when he was 21 and worked in the fields and construction in Foresthill and Placerville. While attending Union meetings he would think about having a cup of coffee and a good tamale. He asked if he could sell his tamales on the corner during Union meetings, but he couldn’t get permission to do so. After losing his job (and with 6 small children to feed), Nabor was walking around Old Town Auburn and saw a small Mexican Restaurant with only 6 small tables. He went in to have lunch, liked the food, and asked the owner if the restaurant was for sale. The owner said no, but Nabor left his phone number and said “call me if you change your mind.” Later that same day, the owner called and said that a family situation had occurred and he had to leave. He asked if Nabor was still interested in buying the small restaurant. One year later, business was so good that Nabor moved to a larger location with 15 tables. To this day he still goes to each location every day to check on his business and taste the food. Today, Old Town and Grass Valley Café Delicious Restaurants are managed by son Ruben Ramirez, one of the Ramirez’s 6 children. Five other Ramirez offspring also work at the restaurants. Old Town Auburn Café Delicious opened in 1964 and is the first of five Café Delicious Restaurants owned by Nabor Ramirez and his wife Rosario. There are two restaurants in Auburn, Old Town and the Grass Valley Highway location, two in Rocklin and one in Roseville. Nabor Ramirez came to the United States in 1953 when he was 21 and worked in the fields and construction in Foresthill and Placerville. While attending Union meetings he would think about having a cup of coffee and a good tamale. He asked if he could sell his tamales on the corner during Union meetings, but he couldn’t get permission to do so. After losing his job (and with 6 small children to feed), Nabor was walking around Old Town Auburn and saw a small Mexican Restaurant with only 6 small tables. He went in to have lunch, liked the food, and asked the owner if the restaurant was for sale. The owner said no, but Nabor left his phone number and said “call me if you change your mind.” Later that same day, the owner called and said that a family situation had occurred and he had to leave. He asked if Nabor was still interested in buying the small restaurant. One year later, business was so good that Nabor moved to a larger location with 15 tables.
